Tillandsia, also known as the "jellyfish plant", is a unique and fascinating epiphytic plant native to tropical regions of Central and South America. This plant does not require soil to grow and gets its nutrients and moisture from the surrounding air, allowing it to grow on a variety of media, such as tree branches, rocks, or even decorative objects.
Tillandsia is distinguished by its rosette-shaped leaves that extend radially from a central center. Some varieties feature silver or silver leaves, while others may be green, red, or even purple. These plants also produce colorful flowers that usually emerge from a spike-shaped bract.
When it comes to care, Tillandsias are relatively easy to care for. They require bright but indirect light and high ambient humidity to thrive. It is recommended to mist them regularly with non-chlorinated water to maintain humidity around the plant. During hot or dry months, Tillandsias may benefit from an occasional soaking in water for a few hours to replenish their moisture.
Tillandsias are often used in terrariums, hanging floral arrangements or simply as unique decorative pieces. Their ability to grow without soil makes them versatile choices for adding a touch of greenery and interest to any indoor environment. With the proper care, these jellyfish plants can thrive and bring a touch of life to your living space.
Approximate length of 25 cm. Note that the size of the tillandsia and the color of the sea urchin may vary.
