If you’re looking to transform a rugged hillside, a bare ditch bank, or a large open space into a picturesque, self-sustaining meadow, the Watters Meadow Mix is your perfect partner. This hardy blend combines resilient, cool-season bunch grasses with a vibrant explosion of wildflowers to create a landscape that is as functional as it is beautiful. I love this mix because it doesn’t just look good—it works hard, using extensive root systems to stabilize soil and prevent erosion while providing a high-quality habitat for local wildlife.
The "meadow" feel comes from a balanced 75/25 blend of grasses and flowers. The grass component features tough, densely-tufted varieties like Sheep Fescue, Hard Fescue, and Perennial Ryegrass, which provide a soft, uniform green backdrop. Rising from that green base is a stunning parade of colors, including the brilliant blues of Blue Flax, the fiery oranges of California Poppies, and the classic whites of Shasta Daisies. With additions like Indian Blanket, Lanceleaf Coreopsis, and Perennial Lupine, your meadow will offer a changing tapestry of blooms from spring through summer that both you and the local pollinators will adore.
Success Tip: To get your meadow established quickly in our dry Arizona climate, the planting process is key. After broadcasting your seeds over prepared soil, we highly recommend applying a thin, 1/2-inch layer of Watters Premium Mulch. This mulch acts as a protective "blanket," keeping the seeds in place against mountain winds and, more importantly, locking in the consistent moisture required for the grasses and wildflowers to germinate. Once these deep-rooted plants find their feet, they are remarkably drought-tolerant and will provide beauty and stability to your land for years to come.
