The New Dawn Rose (Rosa 'New Dawn') is a classic, vigorous climbing rose renowned for its romantic, pale pink blooms and robust growth habit. It is a popular choice among gardeners for covering arbors, trellises, and fences, adding a touch of old-world charm to any garden setting.
The Overall Plant
The New Dawn Rose is a deciduous, climbing rose that can reach heights of 12 to 20 feet and spreads 6 to 10 feet wide, depending on the supporting structure. Its dark green, glossy foliage provides an elegant backdrop for the clusters of delicate blooms. The New Dawn Rose is a vigorous grower and is known for its exceptional disease resistance, making it a reliable and low-maintenance option for gardeners. Its strong, flexible canes are ideal for training along various structures, adding vertical interest to the garden.
The Flowers
The New Dawn Rose produces abundant, large, pale pink, double blooms that have a soft, fruity fragrance. The flowers can measure up to 3 inches in diameter and appear in clusters, creating an impressive floral display. Blooming begins in late spring and continues throughout the summer, with sporadic blooms appearing into the fall. The New Dawn Rose's captivating flowers not only provide aesthetic appeal but also attract beneficial pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, to the garden.
The Fruit
Following the blooming season, the New Dawn Rose produces small, decorative, orange-red rose hips. These ornamental fruits add interest to the plant during the fall and winter months and provide a valuable food source for birds and other wildlife. The rose hips can also be harvested for use in culinary applications, such as making jams, jellies, or tea, adding another dimension of usefulness to this already impressive rose variety.
