Bright, cheerful, and full of personality, the Hypoestes (Polka Dot Plant) is one of the easiest ways to add a splash of colour to your indoor jungle. Known for its speckled leaves in shades of pink, white, or red, this compact houseplant thrives in bright rooms and brings instant charm to desks, shelves, and small spaces. Its bushy growth and playful patterning make it a favourite for beginners and plant collectors alike. Whether you’re after a fun low-maintenance plant or a colourful gift, the Polka Dot Plant delivers year-round interest and is especially loved for how quickly it fills out with the right care.
Plant Care
Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. They can tolerate some shade, but the colours that make them so fab will fade. Direct sun with scorch these lovelies' leaves.
Watering: They always prefer moist but not soggy soil, so give your plant water when the top inch of the earth starts to feel dry. Be careful not to overwater; you don't want to risk root rot, and don't let the soil dry out completely.
Temperature: 18-20°C is its ideal temperature range.
Potting: A well-draining mix that holds moisture is an excellent choice. Our Thirst Trap mix is a great choice.
Hot tips: Humidity lovers! Great choice to add to your terrarium project or keep in a steamy (bright) bathroom. Pinch back leggy growth to keep your plant full and bushy. Rotate regularly for even colour and shape. If colours dull, increase light and check watering.
Pet Friendly: YES
