A masterful hybrid airplant by Paul Isley combining two crown jewels of the Tillandsia world: the majestic T. xerographica, known for its sculptural form and drought tolerance, and the elegant T. rothii, celebrated for its dense silvery trichomes and spectacular blooms.
Parentage: Tillandsia xerographica × Tillandsia rothii
Key features:
- Dramatic rosette form with gracefully arching leaves
- Intermediate grey-green coloration reflecting both parents
- Impressive size potential inherited from T. xerographica
- Enhanced water retention capabilities from both species
- Complex inflorescence combining parental traits
The specimen in the image showcases the hybrid's stunning form - a perfect symmetrical rosette with broad, elegantly curving leaves that create a living sculpture. Each leaf displays the characteristic silvery-sage coloration, a beautiful intermediate between T. xerographica's grey-white and T. rothii's deeper green. The dense trichome coverage creates a frosted appearance that catches and reflects light beautifully.
Collector's note: This hybrid represents a pinnacle of Tillandsia breeding, combining T. xerographica's renowned drought tolerance and architectural form with T. rothii's enhanced water absorption capabilities. The parent species are both from Central America but adapted to different microclimates, resulting in a hybrid that's both hardy and spectacular.
