LICHT, LUCHT, WATER - Museum Panorama Mesdag

04.10.2025 - 01.03.2026

Very pleased to be part of the museum exhibition LIGHT, AIR, WATER – the painters of The Hague. "From plein-air pioneers to contemporary catchers of light, the exhibition Light, Air, Water – the painters of The Hague is a visually rich and surprising presentation that, from an art-historical perspective, traces the development of painting in The Hague over two centuries. From 19th-century masters such as Andreas Schelfhout to contemporary artists like Sebastiaan Spit, Marjolein Knottenbelt, and Marjolein van Haasteren – all have found, and continue to find, inspiration in the same phenomenon: The Hague’s ever-changing coastal light."

Kunstroute Leiden | 27&28 september 2025

27 & 28 September 2025

During this art trail, you can once again take a peek behind the scenes in the studio. Among other things, you’ll catch a glimpse of my project Estuarium, as well as a series of small “time” paintings. These small works offer a view into the future – or show you a starry sky that has already passed. Each one is based on a constellation or moment in time that I find intriguing or that moves me in some way. I select a specific date, time, and place, look up the corresponding constellations and direction of view, and use that as the basis for the work. Is there a date that holds special meaning for you? Would you like to have such a special moment captured in a painting? That’s possible! Simply send me a date, time, and location, and I will create a unique piece just for you. You can also let me know which colour palette you prefer and which (natural) landscape resonates most with you. Each work measures 18 x 24 cm and is painted in acrylic and oil on linen. Time, Timeless, Movement

19 July – 10 August 2025

The exhibition Time, Timeless, Movement celebrates the 350th anniversary of the invention of the balance spring by Christiaan Huygens – a component that remains vital to modern watchmaking. Participating artists have been invited to explore how time influences their work, and how they interpret and experience time.

My sense of time is shaped by the visible drift of constellations across the night sky. I am a stargazer — simply with the naked eye. For this exhibition, that quiet practice gave rise to a series of five small works, each measuring 18 x 24 cm. Celestial scenes, capturing constellations and conjunctions that, I believe, Huygens himself might have cherished. A humble attempt to hold time still, if only for a moment.

Opening: Saturday 19 July at 5:00 PM

UNRAVEL

In UNRAVEL, artists Eric Hirdes, Marjolein van Haasteren, and Mariëtte van der Ven come together in their shared exploration of meaning, form, and imagination. Through painting or sculpture, each artist unravels the world around them in their own unique way, revealing new connections in the process. The works offer no straightforward answers but instead present layered images that provoke questions, entice, and unsettle.

I am happy to announce that the months to come, I will be working on my new project Estuarium.
The coming period I will immerse myself in the phenomenon estuaria, both old and new.

This initiative will be developed jointly with cineast Michiel Keller, and therefore partly result in soundscape cinema, partly in paint, and a combination of the two.

And of course, in addition to estuaries, I will be working on new canvases and panels due to upcoming exhibitions.

More information will follow!

On Sunday 10 December you are warmly invited to visit the opening of the new group exhibition Soft, Slowly & LOUD.

Marjolein van HaasterenMaayke Schuitema and Mariëtte van der Ven bring their worlds together in a joint exhibition at Project 2.0 / Gallery.
From three completely different perspectives they take us into their vision of the world, which they translate in their own unique way.

The range of their expression varies from soft whispers and babbles to insistent and deafeningly confrontational.
Each of these three artists reveals their craftsmanship through their own artistic disciplines: painting, graphic and sculpture.

The production process is artisanal, takes time and goes through various phases. The artist's love and attention is palpable
